Sylvan Elf

needartSylvan elves live in the untamed wilderness of the world. They do not seek to conquer such areas, but instead live together as a part of such places.

Personality: Sylvan elves are distrusting of outsiders, even non-sylvan elves. They know the fate that often befalls the wilderness when other sentient species move into an area, and are always vigilant to protect their homelands from such encroachment. Once a sylvan elf is befriended however, they are utterly loyal and compassionate. Among each other, sylvan elves are pragmatic and caring, having neither the will to do each other wrong nor a sense of pride to prevent forgiveness.

Physical Description: Sylvan elves are short, between 4 ½ and 5 feet tall, with lithe but muscular builds. Their skin is a dark brown, matching the bark of trees. Their eyes and hair are almost always black.

Relations: Sylvan elves are often friends with other woodland creatures, including dryads, treants and unicorns, but shy away from other ‘intelligent’ species.

Alignment: Sylvan elves are almost always neutral good.

Sylvan Elf Lands: Sylvan elves live in semi-nomadic family groups of no more than 15. They may be in nearly any wild woodland, but it is very difficult to find them.

Religion: Most sylvan elves worship Sylvanus, god of the wood and patron of sylvan elves. Some however follow the god Ibaron, patron of unicorns and champion of the wilds.

Language: Sylvan elves speak Sylvan, a language they share with the other children of Sylvanus – dryads, treants, and unicorns.

Names: When translated into other languages, the names of sylvan elves are combinations of an adjective and an animal, object, or place name. Some examples include Tiny Falcon, Running Badger, Cunning Bear, Thinking Rock, Green Legs. Names are given and re-given at will by the elf’s family group, and an elf can have a great many names during his or her lifetime.

Adventurers: There are two principal kinds of sylvan elf adventurer, the kind who is seeking to defend his or her homeland, and the kind which has been ‘tainted’ by civilization and no longer truly belongs in the wilds with other sylvan elves.
