Grey Elves inhabit the great forest of Alfheim, within its great expanses they live an idyllic life of the hunt, music, love and arcane arts. They call themselves Hoch Alfar, or High Elves, as do must other Auctoran humanoids. Other elven races and most non-Auctoran humanoids call them by the less grand term Grey Elf.
Personality: Playful and carefree when among their own, the Hoch Alfar are haughty and subdued when in the presence of other races. Most individuals assume that this is because of the great arrogance of the Grey Elves which leads them to take such a melancholy attitude with other races. The truth of the matter is that other races are much shorter lived than Grey Elves, and the Hoch Alfar know this – and because of it they feel very self-conscious around them, after all, during her life, the average Grey Elf will spend more time partying and relaxing than eight generations of humans will even be allowed to live. Ironically, the condition this creates called Alfenscham inspires many Grey Elves to ‘right the wrongs of the world’ to help make the world more bearable for the short-lived races, even though most of the individuals of those races do not like the Grey Elves at all.
Physical Description: Grey Elves differ from the other elven races in that they are exceedingly tall, between 5’6″ and 6’6″ with males and females being of approximate heights and weights. They do however maintain the elven traits of being very slender and graceful, as such, a Grey Elf of equal height of a human will usually be 20% lighter.
Relations: The Hoch Alfar have limited trade with Norden and Kellish tribes, but usually keep to themselves on an official basis. Unofficially a relatively large number of Grey Elves travel across Auctorus as adventurers and do-gooders.
Alignment: Grey Elves tend toward chaotic good, however any alignment is possible.
Grey Elven Lands: The single Grey Elven dominion is the forest nation of Alfheim, located in northwestern Auctorus. The current king is Ayrendyl Oberon IV, who rules his Alfheim justly and with a good heart, just as his family has for the last 30,000 years.
Religion: The patron deity of the Grey Elves is Oberon Eos, but a large number of Grey Elves also worship or at least venerate Sylvanus, the god of the woods.
Language: Grey Elves have their own language and alphabet, although, traveling elves usually learn other languages.
Names: Elves are given names by their parents which they use until adulthood, at which time they choose their own names to use in conjunction with their clan name.
Male Names: Andenil, Ceryeleuin, Elaron, Firinar, Itaron, Muril, Saryon, Taniel, Vangaron, Veldil.
Female Names: Atimmanya, Cemenwen, Elangore, Feanore, Inyas, Lanwe, Lorime, Lunen, Marie, Nalerussa, Nanya, Sume, Yarqulie.
Clan Names: Arderil, Arnamar, Oberon, Orantur, Tarwen.
Adventurers: Most Hoch Alfar adventurers are in their first century of life, satisfying the call of alfenscham or just exploring the greater world. After a time of adventuring most Grey Elves return to Alfheim to take up lives of peaceful introspection, research and relaxation, enjoying the gifts that have been bestowed upon their race.
