High Gnome

Gnomes are a very old race, as old as the dwarves, but instead of staying as the creator made them, gnomes feel the urge to reinvent both themselves and the world around them. One thousand years before the Great Empire of the humans, a race of gnomes known as The Ancients or Founder Gnomes were the predominant power in the world. Little is known of the fall of the ancients, but it was even more complete than the razing of the Great Empire. Gnomes now live in small enclaves within communities of other races.

Personality: Gnomes are known for their unwavering friendliness and their gullible and sometimes foolhardy lack of judgement.

Physical Description: Gnomes stand between 3 and 3 ½ feet tall and weigh between 40 and 45 pounds. Their skin ranges between alabaster white to a dark earthy brown, and their eyes can be any shade of blue, including lavender.

Relations: Gnomes like everyone, they would even like orcs and trolls if they didn’t try to kill gnomes all the time, but eventually the gnomes know they will win them over. Most races tolerate gnomes, and Miloi and Hill Dwarves actually enjoy their company (although for different reasons). But the perpetual optimism of gnomes, can be daunting, especially in the face of gnomish misadventures.

Alignment: Gnomes tend to be Chaotic Good, they don’t try to be chaotic, and would never admit to it, but they just can’t help it. Gnomes can be of any alignment however.

Gnomish Lands: There was once a great gnomish empire, but it has laid in ruins for 1,500 years. Gnomes now live in enclaves within other races communities, most usually those of Miloi and Hill Dwarves.

Religion: The three principal deities of gnomes are Habaloi (Trickery), Ibaloi (Adventure), Zumakoi (the Home).

Language: Gnomes speak the language of the community which they grew up in, usually either Miloi or Dwarven.

Names: Gnomes have no conventions about naming, they are just as likely to name a child after a friend as the kitchen stove, and often add on names as they become appropriate or desired, but unlike sylvan elves who actually replace a name at a renaming, gnomes have the long-winded tendency to add names ad infinitum. An example being the famous gnomish Rogue Schreibzeug Alexander Hutan Marquis Brottor Kettlepot.

Adventurers: Gnomes can be adventurers for any and more reasons than humans, and the gnomish saying ‘home is where the friends are’ lends to help gnomes relish a life on the road.
